It's titled New York Odyssey and I made it in 1999.

I still just love it. It was a joy to shop for the fabrics and a joy to make. I learned a lot... though not how to make a nice binding and it bulges at the top in the middle. I like paper piecing and I love lots and lots and lots of fabrics.
And then last year, I took two of the orphan blocks from that quilt and made this little item.

It was displayed at the Art Quilts Maine show last summer and SOLD! It was the first quilt I ever sold. And now that I look at the picture again here, I think... wow, it was really nice. I love the blocks combined with the randoming piecing, the rock and stick embellishments and the quilting. And the wonky shape. All good.
I should send Karen Stone a thank you note. She opened a lot of new doors for me in techniques, and colors and possibilities.

These colors are so lovely, Deborah. I remember the first time I saw the piece that sold. You posted it on our FAZ yahoo group and I was so impressed. I thought, oh...that's a quilt artist. And you are!
Love the orphan block piece! I can see why it sold.
Wow! It is amazing to me how arty and original looking the piece you made is, and if I were you I would make it again LARGER....Or the same size and I'll be we would all clamor to buy it.
These are beautiful... Love the colors!
I love the idea of using orphan blocks to do an artquilt. Thanks for sharing your talent and your beautiful work.
I love the orphan block piece. I really love how traditional blocks used in an art quilt format can look.
I love both pieces, but REALLY love the art piece from orphan blocks. The color scheme is so wonderful....I can so see why someone had to buy it. Jen
I can see why this sold, but it isn't like the rest of your stuff is slacker quality! Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing with us!
