That was fun!

There are still lots of houses being built in my neighborhood. I love the framing stage of the construction. The house looks like a giant skeleton. The outside and the inside seem to occupy the same space.

After years of admiring construction sites, I finally took some pictures last week. The inspiration was fresh and I went right to work on this quilt.
Framing Flourish, 31x36"

I'm continuing to use my favorite elements... the stamped circles, the hand writing, the embroidery, the sweeping hillside and the simple house shapes...
I especially enjoyed stitching the yellow vine across the beams of the house image.
I also mastered the embroidery technique of keeping my right hand beneath the quilt and my left hand above the quilt and just passing the needle through. So efficient and meditative!

I love the contrast of the framing with the little houses on the hill. You are getting so proficient with the embroidery stitches.

The yellow vine is so pretty, and I really love the change of scale between the framing and the little houses on the hills too. It's like the framing will become the houses, or the houses are dreaming of when they were built. There's definitely some kind of whimsical narrative going on here. :-)

This is fantastic, Deborah -- I love how you've add the house frame by stencil rubbing (that is what you did, yes?) Very ethereal.

I love the change in perspective on the different houses. There is a sense of depth to this one. The blend of machine quilting and hand embroidery is nicely done. This piece is dreamlike at first glance. Great job!

This is wonderful! I love the depth that the house frame adds and the repetitive pattern of the circles too - it all adds a bit of a dreamlike quality to the piece, and your hand stitching adds another layer of interest - this is one of those quilts one wants to reach out and touch. And is there a cross as well? The huge sky and house frame and the little houses on the hillside makes me think in terms of spirituality and beeing uplifted.

I like this very much, Deborah! Circles have a lot of meaning for me and I also like the frame/skeleton. Thanks for sharing. Gay
