Beautiful Commercial

While watching the olympics last night, a stunning piece of cinema caught my eye. You know when you are drawn in instantly and as soon as it's over you want to see it again? It was a United commercial. You can see it here. It's called Dragon. Watch the commercial first then watch the 6 minute bit about how they made it. Lots of amazing stuff there, plus some very thoughtful insights about parenting.

I didn't like this commercial! I saw it during the super bowl and just didn't like it.

I loved it! Don't watch much television - so thanks,Deborah, for posting the link. Even more than the commercial, I loved the bit about creating it.

Deborah, this was wonderful--especially the 'making of' film. I am fascinated by the technique, but understanding the meaning to the artist and how it ties to real life is even better.

I like The Meeting much more, but visually, The Dragon is wonderful.

I'm blown away that some folks didn't like this...it's wonderful! I loved seeing the how-to of stop animation, how the artist does his thing....way cool! Can you IMAGINE being paid to do work like that? And folks at such a young age having the guts to buck the family and everything to do something art-y that they love for a living? Or maybe that it's just that "I" didn't have the guts, and envy them their courage? No matter what, will show the boys the link tomorrow and hope they like it.

For some reason, it makes me think of Gennadi Spirin's books.....The Tale of the Firebird, the Sea King's Daughter... (Gennadi is also spelled Gennadii, Gennady, etc., making him harder to find in Amazon)...different style of art, but still cool.....

Cheers, Sarah

I saw that commercial several days ago and was also very impressed. IT was the most creative commercial I have seen along with the IPOD commercials that I love.

Ok, Cackmandu is in the minority. I love this commercial. Hadn't had the opportunity to post about it on my blog yet so glad you did! Also reminds me of some books my kids had when they were little (and that are squirrled away for future reading to grandchildren should I be blessed with any).

I saw it last night for the first time and liked it but the one I like best is the business traveler who brings a rose to mum. Brillant advertising work.
