New Work

I started a new quilt. I began by gathering images and doing lots of sketches. Can you see I wrote "looser" in my notes here? The sketch in the bottom right corner is not loose. The sketch on the bottom left is looser. We'll see how it goes with the fabric.
I don't usually sketch too much before cutting into the fabric, but I try to refine proportions and general composition as a first step.

Last year, when I was working on Spontaneity and Stability for the Beneath the Surface exhibit, I had to start over completely. That was mostly because of a problem with the proportion of the various elements. I'd like to avoid that in the future.

This new quilt will be loosely inspired by our zip line adventure and some of the colors, plants, scenery and mood from our trip to Antigua in summer of 2009.

Today is my birthday. I'm looking forward to some time in the studio! I'll also be volunteering to help third graders in the computer lab at Benjamin's school and going out to dinner with my family wearing my new boots and snappy green sweater dress!

Ok. is it bad of me to want a picture of the new boots almost as badly as I want a picture of the quilt?
