I'm working on a short talk I'll be giving at the SAQA conference at the end of March. It's called "What I've Learned From Eleven Years of Blogging."
And when I say I'm "working" on the talk, I mean I'm really really struggling to figure out what to say and how to say it.
I'm also getting distracted by pictures like this from 2005.
And this from just last week.
And by distracted, I mean... I get a little weepy. Time passes. My kids are growing up.
My creative life has changed a lot too. I teach and write and "work" as an artist. But, my blog is not about building a brand. It's not "monetized."
Mostly, I just want to blog about the same stuff I began blogging about eleven years ago: art, family, travel, food, things I like, things I don't like, the world around me.
But, I have learned things along the way and I'm happy to share them. It's just tough to find the right words and images to explain this experience.
I had a similar experience last week when I was tweaking my lecture for the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association. The lecture was called 15 Years of Patchwork, and it was really about the journey. I, too, was enchanted by the the photos of my boys growing up and up. I know what ever you share with us it will be GREAT.
Isn't it great to use your blog to look back? Not only do you get photos but you get your thoughts and explanations at the time. So cool. We're making history in such a vibrant, real way.
I am reminded of that cute little charmer on visits to the library.
Some blogs are all about personal advertisements. Others. like yours, are more of a journal of discovery. Did you ever think, 11 years ago, that you would be where you are now? Perhaps it was a dream come true? And the friends from all over the world who read your blog then, and still read it today--not to get a new "look how great I am" post but a post that celebrates life being lived with joy and troubles.
perhaps a visual "speech" in pictures? Quilts are visual. But it's your written words that resonate with me, dear friend.
Congrats! on 11 years of blogging. Here's to the next 11 years!!
What a wonderful way to journal a life filled with all that you love and is important to you. A modern day diary! ❤️ Mom
You and I were really early adopters. My first blog post was January 31, 2005! Yikes - you're right! Eleven years. Where does the time go? I'll probably be senile in another 11 years and then my blog will really be fun to read.
Thanks for the link you left on my blog today!
