I just love Sue Bleiweiss' new book!
Can you see the subtitle there? Techniques, Prompts, and Inspiration for Achieving Your Creative Goals. Well, that just about says it all. It's the perfect description. This book is packed with stuff -- but in such a thoughtful, casual, easy-to-access format.
Several artists are profiled throughout the book. Each artist falls within a chapter focusing on a particular theme. Here is Jane Davies page in the "Patterns and Grid" chapter.
Each artist discusses a technique, shares some pages from her sketchbook and details a project originally inspired by the sketchbook process.
The variety of styles, techniques, color palettes, inspiration and interpretations in the book is amazing! This is not another mixed media book where everything looks like everything else. Though I might not ever create anything in a style similar to some of the artists in the book, I can still learn so much from her process and techniques.
Here is the title page from the Rhythm chapter with Laura Cater-Woods' beautiful fabric book structure.
This book is definitely worth adding to your book shelf!
Plus, you can always check out The Sketchbook Challenge blog. It's on ongoing project where all kinds of artists share their sketchbooks, techniques and inspirations with a different theme each month. I am thrilled to be one of the new "hosts" on the blog. Look for my post for the circles theme later this week.
