My Video Workshop is Released Today!

Video Workshop
My brand new video workshop, Contemporary Fabric Collage: Design, Stitch and Finish, is now available for download! I am so thrilled with this project.

It's just like taking a workshop with me. As I prepared for the shoot, I made long lists about all the tips, suggestions, ideas and directions I wanted to include. Plus, there are lots of visual aids and examples throughout the dvd. I think you're going to love it!

The video workshop includes chapters on fabric selection, composition, using sheer fabrics, stitching by machine and by hand, and unique finishing options.

Artwork from the Video
I created three fabric collages specifically for filming the video workshop. They each include the signature elements and techniques that are discussed in the workshop.

Verdant Vista, 14x11"

Ikat Gathered, 12.5 x 11"

Plentiful, 22 x 15"

Give Away
To celebrate the release, check out this fun give-away! I've created three "collage kits" inspired by each of the three collages for the video. Each kit includes several pieces of fabric, including some of the exact same fabrics I used in these collages, plus some fabrics with my original stamping and surface designs. There are sheer fabrics, cottons, unexpected and unusual items and vintage hankies. Plus, a couple of skeins of coordinating embroidery floss, one of my favorite needles and a spouncer sponge. (Almost everything you need to create your own collage.)

How to Enter
To be entered into this give-away, just comment on this blog post. Tell me what you are looking forward to learning in the video workshop. Here are some extra opportunities to be selected for the collage kits.
  • Mention and link my blog and video workshop on your Facebook.
  • Sign up for my e-newsletter. (The link is at the top of the right side bar.)
  • Pin an image of the video workshop or my artwork on Pinterest.
  • Blog about the video workshop.
If you do any of these things, just come back here and add an additional comment saying "hey, I signed up for your newsletter/mentioned you on Facebook/pinned an image..." or whatever. Thanks so much for spreading the word about the video workshop.

I'll take sign ups through May 2, then I'll use a random number generator from all the blog comments and pick three winners -- one for each collage kit.

I'll leave you with this funny picture from the video production. Apparently, I was a bit surprised by sound guy.

OK...Number 1 wins occasionally, right? I'd LOVE one of these kits. Thx for thinking of us all.

Because I get your nice newsletter, I'm early on the comment list.

I just love your work, you know. I have one other workshop ahead of you now and then it's on to yours.

I'd like to learn more finishing techniques... took your STITCHED class and loved it, but wimped out and added binding to my project. So finishes would be good.

Can you make these lovely fabric kits available on your ETSY? I would love to buy one to go with the video I am buying right now! I am eager to learn more about your thought process as you create one of your masterpieces.

I don't need to be entered into the drawing because I already have fun stuff from you, but I wanted to say how excited I am that you had the opportunity to do this project and share your ideas and techniques with a broader audience, and I think your giveaway is going to be great for some lucky commenters who are ready to dive into collage fun!

Great funny photo! Love your style and have enjoyed your workshop. I haven't gotten up the courage to sign up for your collage video. Maybe a kit would help me along (hint!)

What's not to like about all this fabric goodness? Even if I won't win, I'm still going to get your workshop video. Oh, I also mentioned you on Facebook and signed up for your newsletter.

I'd like to learn to put things together so they don't just look like a mess :)

Okay. I know "fabric collage." For several years off and on I've tried to do it but with absolutely no success.
Let's face it I've got loads of scraps so it seemed like a simple procedure to pick out a few, lay them, start stitching, and then "yuck." "No way, Jose." I've just given up. Now when I watch you do it, I think there might be hope for me. Certainly starting with one of your kits with definitely help me be successful.

Am hoping this video will express some of your theory behind the placement of elements and stitching.

The one thing I always hope to learn from any artist, that I am not completely familiar with is a different point of view or way at looking at how we create. If I can take away bits of knowledge that make my work more intriguing and incorporate that into my own individuality, the finished work will tell a story and that story just might lead others down a path of creativity.

I signed up for your newsletter. I love to collage and would have a blast with your workshop and I would promote it to my art group.

So much wonderful things to learn from your video! I haven't worked with shears, so that would be fun.
I did the FB and email sign up, too.

I already commented but I have to say one thing, cause it is kind of cute. In that photo of the man pinning your microphone to you, it reminded me of Mary Tyler Moore, on her show...that look on your face is priceless...(Some are too young to know that show, so you might have to look it up.)

I do fabric collage as well. I am interested in seeing how you approach your collages, how you are inspired and how you incorporate hand embroidery.

I want to see in the video if the sound guy's taken one of your earring off - looks like he is hold an invisible cup of a hot beverage and checking the temperature with his left hand pointer finger. I'd be scared too if people were putting hot beverages on my shoulder!
