Candid Claire

A few weeks ago, Claire entered a contest for girls interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers. She had to submit a five minute video answering several questions. We worked together to set up this shot and we did several takes. Claire is much more comfortable taking a math exam than she is talking about herself ... especially on video! But, she did a great job and it was a big accomplishment to put together an application for the contest.

I grabbed several stills from the videos and I think they are so fun! They are a tiny peek into what a smart, fun, clever, thoughtful, dedicated and hard working young woman she is.

Video defaults to this strong horizontal composition. That made it a bit tricky to fill the shot with interesting, but not distracting, scenery.

The contest specified that no brand names or other identifiable images were shown in the video. We had to "stage" the book shelf to fit the requirements.

I got that t-shirt for Claire for Christmas last year. It's from Threadless and is printed with whimsical math formulas and notes. She loves it.

She also loves that chair. I think it's awful, but I agree it's comfortable.

Do you see the skull on the book shelf? That was the trophy we won when we competed in the RavenChase adventure.

She didn't win, but I'm no less proud!

Good for Claire to push past her comfort zone and make the video. She's an amazing girl and will go far in the world, I'm sure.
