Short Thoughts

We're slowly settling into our home in Maryland.

The kitchen is completely unpacked.

We have a beautiful, lush, green backyard and a nice deck.
You know how mosquitoes usually come out at dusk? Here, they are out and biting all day long.

The master closet has a full Ikea storage system...
with very little hanging space. Other than pajamas and undies, I hang almost everything. Doesn't everyone? Apparently not. Oh, and that hanging bar on the right... I had to lower it about five inches. I guess the previous renters were tall.

They also had an aversion to changing burnt out light bulbs.

Benjamin is having a hard time with this move. He feels out of place. So, I'm spending the next day or so getting his room in order. And trying to gently redirect him to positive outlook.

I haven't begun to unpack my studio stuff. I suppose I'll get to it eventually.

We were not allowed to send any food with the movers and chose not to bring too much with us in the cars. I need to make a long and comprehensive grocery list. That is almost more daunting than another mountain of boxes.

It always seems so overwhelming after the initial excitement. When we moved to CA from NY, our kids were 6, 8 and 10. Lisa was 8 and the most unhappy when we first moved. She was defiant and said she was moving back to NY as soon as she was old enough. Ha! She ended up being the happiest. She is still in CA. When school starts, Benjamin will find new friends and new activities to fill the void.

Hang in there. It feels overwhelming now, but y'all will settle in sooner than you think. Once you get your studio set up I know you'll feel better!

Hi Deborah,

I have a friend whose son's family moved recently and her grandson said, "I have friends who haven't met me yet!"

Hang in there -- the actual act of moving pretty much sucks, but you will all get settled in and start enjoying this new chapter in your lives together.

I love that closet system! More hanging space would be good, but all those cubbies look so clean and tidy. I've been thinking about Benjamin and the move. He has my sympathy! I think that focusing on him and his space is much more important than your studio stuff right now -- especially if you don't have any looming deadlines. I hope that school helps the kids' transitions. I love Emanda's comment about friends who haven't met them yet. :-)

Hi Deborah-
Looks like you have your work cut out for you, I don't envy you a bit. I do have some information you might find helpful. I use a product for mosquito prevention and it really works. You may want to investigate it. You can buy it from other websites, so I don't know who has the best deal right now but this should get you started...

We miss you here in Dallas and hope you are doing well!

Sending good energies your way to help Benjamin in all the ways he needs. I remember how hard it was the first few weeks before school & activities started. When we moved here he said he was going to run away if I wouldn't paint his room black.
