Clever Kids!

My kids are awesome.

Evidence:

Claire played the oboe for the school district solo festival last weekend. She was playing a level V piece of music (out of VI). It was the first movement of Hanel's Sonata No. 1. She played beautifully and gracefully listened to the excellent constructive criticism by the adjudicator. She got an "excellent" rating. That's just one level below "superior." Yeah, Claire!
Did I mention she's only been playing for a year and half?!

Benjamin drew this awesome doodle as part of the spelling assignment to illustrate his spelling words.
I can not even explain how much I love this! If you are a child of the 80's surely you recognize the reference even in this simple line drawing. I mean really, how else could you illustrate "thriller"?!

Yay, Claire! I played the clarinet and I know how difficult mastering the oboe is. It is one of the most important instruments in an orchestra.

And, thriller? How creative is that? Sometimes I miss my days when I was a Mom of kids this age. In their 40s, they are still making me proud.

Way to go Claire! The oboe is indeed a lovely instrument - but a HARD one to master. Deborah, I have to point out that oboes are very sought after in college orchestras and bands, so even if Claire doesn't want to major in music, she could receive a music scholarship in many many schools and "earn" it by playing in a major ensemble and taking lessons. :-)
