It's a nice space. And there were lots of people there.
This my piece. It's called "Patina of Radiance."
You can see it on the left in this photo between the gal in the green shirt and the gal in the black tank top.
There was a review of the show in the Friday Denton Time section of the Denton Record Chronicle -- the local paper. Here is what the reporter wrote about my piece.
"Deborah Boschert's art quilt, a small panel called Patina of Radiance, is a good thing in a small package. Boschert took little things, an old key, small gold-tone washers, and stitched them among all manner of things inspired by nature -- tiny metal fish, an image of a temple idol and the suggestions of butterfly wings. Together, they suggest that the patina of brilliance is a gift from the sun. She uses muted royal colors -- purple, spots of teal and dark browns, blacks and reds."

If you are in the area, the show runs through September 28 at Texas Woman's University in the West Gallery. They are open from 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. (Except my friend Connie went at 4:05 and it was closed.)
My favorite piece was an oil painting by Penelope Bisbee called Drowning Polar Bear I. It's a small square canvas with a surprising composition, a polar bear silhouette, a large red men's shoe and lots of handwriting. I tried to google an image, but I struck out.
Jeff's favorite piece was a huge wood cut -- 33 3/8 by 24 5/8" -- called Twin Pines by Alan Cobb. An amazing image of a deep forest. Apparently, Jeff's got good taste because it was awarded the Best of Show.
I must say I am continuing to struggle with the presentation of fiber art. I thought my small piece floated a bit on the walls with all the other framed pieces. There is certainly something to be said about the visual effect of a matte and a frame. Anyway, something to think about.
And guess what yesterday was?!
Benjamin started Kindergarten and Claire began third grade yesterday! Hooray!

Congratulations on the nice reception of your Radiance piece! I'm not surprised you won an award (and $$!). And congrats on getting your two cuties off to school! They look so cute. How did Benjamin like kindergarten? And what WILL you do with all that free (harhar) time?!

Benjamin started kindergarten! Of course he did, I 'm just stuck in the olden days when he helped us with our meetings! Now you have LOTS OF TIME for that new studio of yours...
