Green

We decided to change over to more energy efficient light bulbs -- the whole house all at once! It will be interesting to see if it affects our bill, but it feels more responsible anyway.I'm getting accostomed to the fact that the bulbs take a few minutes to warm up to full strength. And I'm turning on lights less frequently anyway. I mean really, do I need to turn the light on in the bathroom? I know where everything is and I don't intend to be there long.

I got the skirt itch again. Every spring I think I need to make myself a skirt. I was in love with a skirt in Threads magazine about three years ago. This year I actually bought fabric. I'm going to whip up a little reversible wrap number. We'll see how it turns out.

Maybe if it's warm enough, I'll wear bring it on my trip to Maine. Yes, I'm going to visit the Frayed Edges (here and here) this weekend. So fun! I can hardly wait. I'm also going to get a chance to have lunch with Joanne.

I started the hand embroidery on the large landscape. I'm also planning to do some free motion quilting and I think it can be challenging to combine the two. So I'm working carefully and referring to Kristin and Melly's work -- they have most excellent examples of handwork combined with machine work.

I've been told that these light bulbs make a "considerable" difference in the light bill. I'll be interested in a second opinion from you. We have them in two rooms so far.

Sunday is circled in RED on my calendar!!!

You'll have to let us know how your new light bulbs affect the light bill!

Have a wonderful time in Maine! I've been missing the old stomping ground a bit lately! Be sure and check out the neighborhood!

And while you are off to Maine, I will be hanging out with the super fantastic Sonji in Eugene! have a great time in Maine and say hey to Sarah!

The Australian government is actually phasing out ordinary incandescent light bulbs by law - but no one seems to be acknowledging or assessing the impact of incorrect disposal of compact fluorescents, which all contain mercury.

Hey, have MUCH fun in Maine, I know the frayed edges and you will have a ball back together!

Counting the days...

Go Green! I'm proud of you and Jeff for doing the bulb thing BIG. Now if I can convince you to compost my work will be done!

Found an awesome nightlight that uses 2cents of energy a year... can that be right?

We can't wait 'til you're here too!!!!

And I bought some compact fluorescents... didn't like the blue-ish color of the "daylight" ones, but bought another that is on the warm end of the CFL spectrum, and it is much better. If we like that one (in Eli's room, the blue-ish one being recirculated to an infrequently used lamp in my studio), I'm planning on switching over, albeit not all at once.

As for the light in the bathroom... I'm with ya. Because we are not guys, we don't need to spend eons in there reading...

Oh, you are so good and so responsible! I keep thinking we need to start switching over more of our lights to these kind of bulbs, but we seem to have a huge supply of incandescent bulbs to use up first. I'll be interested in how much you save on electricity. Have a great trip!
