In the picture above, I've pinned some "stem" pieces. (Those four blueish fan shapes are supposed to be flowers, so they needed stems.) I had two sheer pieces. On one I rubber stamped some swirly shapes. I love swirly shapes.
In fact, I thought I liked them so much, I stamped a bunch more.
And then I reject them as too busy against the painted background. Not too worry, this sheer stamped fabric will be set aside for another project.Eventually I just stitched these white strips. I wrinkled them up a bit as I sewed to add to the layered theme.
You can see an painted organza flower shape over that blue flower. There are a few other organza overlays. They are subtle and I'm not convinced they are very successful. You can see lots of the quilting patterns here too.Speaking of the quilting, I'm considering painting over that blue vine element.
I did a test on the back. I wanted it to look rough and choppy. At the top is the painted part, at the bottom are the unpainted stitches. The thread wasn't cooperating with me. There are lots of bumps and weird stitches. So, yes... the painting would hide that a bit, but also I think I like the idea of an additional somewhat subtle surface design. Your opinions?
Then I had to bind it. I tried to think of some totally unique arty method, but nothing seemed to be practical. Then I discovered a zip loc bag full of 1.75 inch strips of blue fabrics. (From the Strips and Curves class I took from Louis Smith a long time ago.) The colors were perfect. I loved the mix of commercial prints with the hand painted background. They were a bit too narrow, but I sewed them with a teeny tiny allowance and now I just need to stretch and hand sew it to the back. Actually, I like how narrow it is.
Phew. More later.
Well, Blogger finally forced me to switch to the new Blogger. I got totally locked out of the old Blogger. Grumble.

I love all your Klimt-y quilting. That's my favorite part. I think I am in favor of painting teh vines, but I'm not totally sure. The whole thing is coming together nicely. Purty :-)
It's looking great! The pieced binding is a really nice touch. On our blue stem sample I like the added texture of the paint.
Joann's usually has a wide color range of tulle or fine netting. I would try placing odd bits of the stuff on the sewn line and gluing it down or doing some light tacking. or stick the tulle bits into the wet paint.
Ooh! This is gorgeous. The sparing use of shapes, the quilting designs adding subtle texture and pattern, the lovely organza overlay stems... Really beautiful. And I'm not a bit surprised.

Too busy against the painted background? What are you talking about "too busy"? Deborah! Oh, yeah...this is your piece, not mine. Sorry. I'm loving the blue and I wish I could see that transparent stamped fabric in person. Wouldn't a whole piece that's transparent like that be great?

So you got "forced" to change to new Blogger as well? That happened to me to, blissfully entering a post earlier in the day and when I went to post again, FORCEFULLY made to switch, no getting to it unless I googled myself up.
