I am so delighted to show you this series of fiber postcards I made recently. I created them as the "sample" for an article I wrote for Artitude magazine. It will be in the upcoming spring issue. It's about using both positive and negative cut fused shapes in fabric compositions.
They are all 4x6 inches and I used all the steps that I wrote about in my book. (You can see it here.)
Blue Roadside -- Here I used some embroidery to re-emphasize the negative house shape.
Hillside Homes -- I love the contrast of that one negative cut on the right.
Imagined Homes -- All negative cuts here. Great for layering.
Layered Neighbors -- See how the small yellow house is cut from the other yellow shape?
Scattered Sunshine -- Ah... my beloved house shape.
Stitched Horizon -- I love mixing all the cuts and shapes through out the series of cards.
I gave three of these small quilts to my parents for Christmas. The other three are for sale on my art blog.
I hope you'll check out Artitude if you haven't already. There is something really different and wonderful about independent press and every issue is full of interesting tips, profiles and articles.
Plus, the editor, Suz, has a new book coming out soon. It's called Kalidescope and includes some of Sonji's artwork.
