I Snuck Away...

from the boxes to blog a quick bit this morning.

Here's my finished handbag that I started at the Art Quilts Maine Sit and Sew in January. (Beware blurry photo from three-year-old photographer.)

Here's a close-up.

It's fun to fantasize about caring it on a snappy, clear, warm, spring day -- the exact opposite of what's happening in Maine at the moment. No worries, obviously that will change when we get to Texas.

The bag is from an Amy Butler pattern. Pretty cute, pretty easy -- though I'm not sure I'd make it again. I'm really not a pattern-type of girl. So it was all done and sitting on a shelf looking pretty, but kind of plain. And then I was browsing DJ Pettitt's stunning mixed media purses and a light bulb came on. Ding!

Some quick fused shapes, some of my favorite embroidery stitches, a bunch of green buttons that I bought in a supercool little tin at Joann's for 30% off, and a little metal tag that says "celebrate." It's much more me now, don't you think?

Now go out and celebrate youself! And Happy Valentine's Day!

This is a lovely little bag and as you say, very Spring like. However its hard to see how the handle fits and how you can get into the inside. Any chance of a bird's eye view?

Lovely little purse. It's the perfect touch for spring!!

Hope you get some time on your journey from here to there to keep up caught up, but I remember it's a stressful time. Good luck, and be careful

I can't believe that you are participating in all this moving business and still make time to make a handbag. I'm as lazy as I don't know what. Plus, how cool to have a three year old photographer. He's not bad!

What a great bag! Those extra embellishements made all the difference! I have just made a couple of Amy Butler bags myself, and although the fabrics were great they could have done with a little extra. Hm, next time... ;-)
