Yesterday was a good day. Just average. But productive and enjoyable.
I had my third "restorative" at the dentist. Over the past few months, he has replaced old fillings that had decay under them. I despise the dentist. I don't consider myself an anxious person, but in the past I've had to use the nitrous oxide just to get through the experience. Since my training in self-hypnosis, I am able to manage the discomfort my better. (Self hypnosis, you say?! More on that another time.) And you know what I actually dislike more than the awful sound of the drill? The smell of the ground up tooth that goes flying into the air right above my nose. Yuck yuck yuck. Anyway, I hope I won't have to see the dentist for anything other than twice-yearly cleanings for a long long time.
I also made an appointment to get my hair cut. You know how your hair can go from manageable and looking fine -- though past the perfection of a good haircut -- to suddenly completely unmanageable and shaggy looking? I reached that point. Luckily, Crystal can always squeeze me in and I may have time to drive through Starbucks between the time I drop the kids at school and my appointment time. Yeah!
We went out to a new Mexican place last night. I had enchilada's with mole sauce. I don't think I've ever had mole. Wow... so good! Rich, nutty, a bit sweet and delish.
I really enjoyed watching The Amazing Race last night. I would say I enjoyed it more because it's finally down to a manageable number of teams who I feel I've gotten to "know" over the past several weeks. I don't like any of them, but they are good tv characters. But, actually, I think I enjoyed watching it because Jeff was still home. It's so much more fun when you can dish and discuss and debate with someone while watching. Plus, I cleaned my studio while watching. It was a terrible mess. I made some real progress on a new project and managed to fix the sweater that Claire was unraveling and the Santa hat that Benjamin had mangled.
We also watched Barbara Walter's Most Fascinating People show. I enjoy this every year. I always try to guess who will be her number one person. Just like I try to guess Time's Man of the Year and other year-end media gigs. Hmmmm. Camilla Parker Bowles was her pick. ??? That's what you're going with, huh Barbara? I think you were just tired of people always guessing who the "winner" was, that you just picked someone completely preposterous for the sake of compete mystery. Ok, if that's what's important to you. There was no one related to the hurricanes on her list. How can that be? Surely it's the most significant event in the recent news of the United States. Of course, who would you choose? Mayor Nagin? Anderson Cooper? That Brown guy? No one especially stands out. It was much more of a community experience.
Others on the list. I do find Tom Cruise fascinating, in a completely whacked-out, self-absorbed but still HOT kind of way. Teri Hatcher? Not so much. How about Will Farrel if you want to pick an actor. That guy is everywhere! And Wedding Crashers and 40 Year Old Virgin were huge blockbusters that have revived a whole genre of movie. (Not that I like the whole raunchy jokes and fart gags kind of movie -- but lots of folks do!) And Dakota Fanning? No... that child freaks me out a bit.
Today Benjamin and I are going out for a playdate with friends. It's pouring rain. And I'll be watching America's Next Top Model and LOST while working on that project some more tonight.

I hate going to the dentist, also. I call myself a dentist's annuity becasue they can count on me for income every year! So I felt your pain. I was at a looong vestry meeting last night so I missed Barbara's show. I should have tivoed it.
Anderson Cooper gets my vote. He is VERY appealing. Camilla has changed the British monarchy forever--maybe that's what Barb was thinking?
I have a project to do today also and a good rain is always helpful to staying with it. But I have to work 2 hours at the library this afternoon and that breaks up the day and I get off track so easily!!!
The DENTIST!!! Phobia!!! I can't stand anything about the dentist but the SMELL is very creepy!! And the sounds!! I use sensodyne toothpaste for a month or so before my cleaning so I don't FEEL the cleaning equipment and I always have a DEATH GRIP on my belt--both hands--I told the dentist that keeps me from hitting him. He is very appreciative
Here's to a Starbuck's en route..... I need to make a dentist's appt. By the time the second cleaning rolled around, our insurance had been used up months ago, so had to cancel it. Soon. Yellow teeth are not cool.
You've been awfully busy, though..... good for you. I made placemats. BORING. And even though I really like the tree skirt I'm making, piecing stuff is no longer "me"---call me BORED BORED BORED. Oh well, when it's done it will be nice and I won't have to make another one for 20 years!
Toodles, Sarah
BLEAH to the dentist!! I HATE going to the dentist and totally sympathise.
I hope you get a Starbucks fix! Yum.
I left the Baba Wawa special on last night more-or-less as background as I was finishing a book and thought most of her choices were odd. But what else is new? ;-)
I'm so glad that you mentioned that Dakota Fanning freaked you out a bit. I feel exactly the same way. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (lower case fear as opposed to EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, upper case fear as in Paris Hilton and her puppet crowd).
I heard Babara talk about the upcoming show, and how the pick would be a real surprise. I think she said no one will ever guess. Thanks for posting the winner. I never would have guessed in a million years. Byt then again, I watch very little TV too.
I have done part of my "restorative" work and have more to look forward to. My sympathies.
