Cinema and Theatre

We've been partaking of late...

Last weekend Jeff and I went to see Wedding Crashers. This is the kind of film I try to convince him will be better on dvd because then we can watch all the deleted scenes and outtakes which are sure to be a riot on a movie filled with so much improv... especially of the raunchy sex and bodily humor genre. If you like that kind of thing. But, Jeff thought the previews were so funny and he'd heard good word-of-mouth at the office, so off we went. It was really good. Definetely enjoyable. That Vince Vaughn, he's really making a name for himself in the Ben Stiller/Will Ferrell mafia.

Then Claire and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Of course, it's a visual feast. Claire loved that it followed the book so closely -- until the end. She did not love the back story about Wonka's childhood. A bit freaky. Hello... what did you expect from Tim Burton? I missed the wonderful "I've Got a Golden Ticket" song and dance by Charlie Bucket and his grandfather from the original. And as several others have said in their review, the lyrics to the Oompa Loompa songs were drowned out by over production of music. Bummer. Good stuff that Dahl wrote there.

And then last night we all went to see Seussical The Musical at the Children's Theater of Maine. Super Fun. Even Benjamin did great. In fact, I think he liked live theater much better than movies. He was so curious about where the actors would go when as they went off stage. We loved how many of Seuss's stories were woven together and the over-the-top costumes.

We also rented Tarzan 2 recently. Thumbs up.

And Bigger Than the Sky. Thumbs down. Way down.

Isn't Seusiccal so much fun? We have friends performing in it here in Colorado (going on right now at the Cabaret.) We also saw Seussical this past winter as a high school production. They did a great job.
